Channeling: Marjetta Sepala

I got this fabulous framed fabric print by Marjetta Sepala for free the other day. I have it in my workspace, but I plan on moving it home when we move this May. Dated 1973. It is in amazing shape and so very mod! I dunno why I look so sad here, but I'm wiped out and it's only Tuesday!

union jack goes high back!

Im pretty psyched. We picked up this highback chair at a thrift shop last week and I was trying to wrap my head around what to do with it. It is incredibly well made, has the softest silken fabric that is a bit damaged on the upper left side. It is super clean and very sturdy and pretty much screaming for a lift.

I am just about sure we are going to have it reupholstered in a union jack material. See below for inspiration. I will post her when she is all pretty...

green clean air

top of the stairs has an amazing skylight that this one is gonna LOVE.

Bathroom plant (who loves the shower skylight too).

Entryway plant (can enjoy the light shining through the doorway).

Art plant that thrives off of MOD paintings in lieu of sunlight.

'Tis the season to drag the plants inside. The benefit? Cleaner air and greener decor. Here are some of my plants that I have recently brought in from my patio and how I am incorporating them inside.

connectivity

I am in love with these particular Stephens chairs...which can be found in a common mid century setting without the arm rests more often than not. However, there is something just too special about the arms that give them an additional appeal. If you look at them in the picture taken here (chairs are from my personal collection), you will see how the lines in the arms match up seamlessly with the lines in the legs and gives them the element of connectivity. Very fluid and tranquil...

The kitchen...

The major work horse of the house. We have developed an affinity for making everything fresh and from scratch nowadays. Hummus, salsa, spag sauce...this kitchen sees it all!

Our spice Rack...so very useful and minimal above the stove in the kitchen!

its whats inside that counts...

One of my necessities in life is to constantly be challenging myself for inspiration...to always surround myself with the things that I love. I found that by making art a part of my everyday routine, it would make even the most mundane task, subconsciously compelled.

I have an amazing mug collection, for starters (yes that is a Knoll MUG you see in the cabinet). It all began when Pippin and I consolidated our stuff and moved in with each other. I was the "all glassware must match" type, while Pippin had a very kitschy collection of forks, knives and mugs that had a personality of their own.

If personality equals character, and character is everything, then I wanted to draw that character out to the umpteenth degree by applying stylistic principles WAY below the surface.

Kitchen cabinets are a good way to start. One thing about this way of incorporating art into everyday life is that it is constantly being recreated. As the glasses get used, they are stacked and arranged next by color, style, to send out a message...The "just don't forget who's boss" mug you see is a running joke in the family. If the three year old sips juice from it or mama sips a red, don't mess, okay?

The plates may be in an every other sequence today, but tomorrow...perhaps orange orange stone stone stone?

No matter what, have fun with the stuff you love and if you don't love it, someone else will (halloooo Craigs list!).
